Windows 7 & 8 users can right click on a document icon to open recent documents.įor Windows 7 and 8 users, once you’ve opened Writer (or another module), you can go to the document icon in the Windows Taskbar (on the bottom of the screen) and right-click to get a list of recent documents for that module. The sidebar (first seen in Apache OpenOffice last summer) is now also standard in LibreOffice and opened and closed by the new menu command View > Sidebar. You may also select Extended Tips if you want more information. Tools > Options then LibreOffice > General and check the box for Tips under Help. While you get used to the new icon set, you can also turn on tool tips (if they are not already set), by selecting: In the menu below User Interface, select Sifr. To change to the new icon set (or use any other icon set), select from the menu:

New Flat Icon Setįlat design has been a hot feature in blogging and software design for over a year now, and it has finally reached LibreOffice with a new flat icon set inexplicably called “Sifr.” The icons do give the suite a more modern look, and it complements my added Firefox theme. Many improvements have been made to fix bugs and add features to make it easier to exchange Write / Word and Calc / Excel files back and forth, including adding functions in Calc to make the switch easier. Better Import / Export between Microsoft Office and LibreOffice To my mind, the document icons seem overly large and I couldn’t find a way to change the size, but that’s a quibble to a good interface improvement.

You can tap, use your mouse, or use keyboard shortcuts to select what you want to do. It also shows tiles of your most recently used documents. The first thing you’ll notice is a new, larger and better looking startup screen which allows you to choose which module you want to start up.
